Living with a learning disability can have a profound impact on mental health, particularly when individuals repeatedly experience being “behind,” singled out, or misunderstood in environments that prioritize one way of learning. Over time, these experiences can shape self-esteem, increase anxiety, and contribute to internalized beliefs of not being capable or “good enough.”

For many, it is not the learning disability itself that creates the greatest distress—but how systems respond to it. Educational and social environments can unintentionally isolate, label, or overlook individuals, reinforcing feelings of difference rather than belonging.

This session explores the emotional and psychological impact of these experiences, how they show up in behaviour and mental health, and how shifting toward more inclusive, responsive, and strengths-based approaches can better support both learning and overall well-being.

This is a complimentary workshop made possible thanks to funding from the Government of Canada.
