Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training program designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to recognize and respond effectively to mental health issues and emergencies. The training emphasizes understanding common mental health challenges, recognizing early warning signs, and providing initial help until appropriate professional support can be obtained. Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a certificate from the Mental Health Commission of Canada, signifying their preparedness to assist in mental health crises.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Recognize warning signals of a mental health crisis or deterioration
  • Have conversations to urge the person to discuss their deteriorating mental health and consider their support choices
  • Utilize MHFA strategies to maintain one’s own mental health
  • Connect the person to support resources
  • Assist in the event of a mental health or substance use emergency

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are workshops in-person, a hybrid or both?

Hybrid – 2 hour online module followed by a 1-day in person

  • Module 1: Self Learning Online
  • Module 2: 9:00am – 12:30pm
  • Module 3: 1:30pm – 5:00pm

*online module to be sent 4 weeks in advance to course date

What is the cancellation policy for workshops?

CMHA Toronto reserves the right to cancel or postpone workshops due to the following: under enrollment, instructor illness, inclement weather, and or due to public health recommendations related to a public health concern that limits our ability to safely deliver our workshops and / or programs

If a workshop is cancelled, an alternative date will be discussed or clients will receive a full refund.

Refunds will only be provided in the event a workshop had been cancelled by CMHA Toronto.

If plans change after you have registered, the following may be done:

    • The workshop can be transferred to another date only upon provision of a notification email to workshops@cmhato.org, 10+ business days prior to the start of training registered by your company. A $20 administration fee will be applied and is payable at the time of the transfer request.
    • There are no refunds are changes within 30 days before the scheduled training.
    • If you fail to attend your scheduled workshops without notifying us, your fee will be forfeited
