About The Workshop

Transitions like returning to school can have a significant impact on children’s mental health, often showing up in ways that are misunderstood—such as increased anxiety, irritability, withdrawal, or behavioural changes. What may look like “acting out,” avoidance, or resistance is often a child’s way of communicating overwhelm, uncertainty, or a lack of safety.
For many children, transitions disrupt routine, predictability, and a sense of control. This can be especially challenging for those already navigating anxiety, learning differences, or previous negative school experiences. Without the right support, these moments can lead to increased stress, emotional overwhelm, and disconnection.
This session focuses on understanding what children are expressing through their behaviour and how to respond in ways that build trust, connection, and a sense of safety—rather than shame or punishment.
This is a complimentary workshop made possible thanks to funding from the Government of Canada.
