About The Program
Family Intervention Therapy (FIT) is a structured, psycho-educational program designed to support families in fostering healthier relationships and communication while navigating mental health issues.
FIT brings together individuals living with schizophrenia or a psychosis related disorder and their immediate loved ones for a series of weekly group sessions spanning 12-14 weeks. Through these sessions, families learn techniques to express emotions constructively, actively listen, make positive requests, and navigate difficult feelings. This therapy is designed for individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia or a psychosis related disorder. It is not appropriate for other mental health concerns such as depression and anxiety.
Key features of FIT include a whole-family approach, recognizing the interconnected impact of mental health within the family dynamic, present-focused strategies, promoting forward movement and positive change, and skill development that empowers families with tools to identify early signs of mental health crises and strategies to manage them together.
Please note, FIT is only available to people in Toronto.
