Different types of legacy gifts

There are different ways to make a legacy gift, including:

  • Making a bequest in your Will
  • Designating CMHA Toronto as the beneficiary of your RRSP, RRIF, TFSA or life insurance policy
  • Donating stocks, bonds or mutual funds

Your lawyer, accountant, or financial planning professional can help you understand the specific implications of donating any of these kinds of assets and help you make your gift.

Making a Bequest in Your Will

A bequest in your Will can be as simple as including a sentence or two naming CMHA Toronto in your Will or adding a codicil to your existing Will.

You can designate a specific dollar amount, a particular asset, or a fixed percentage of your estate. You can also request that the principal of your charitable bequest be held in an endowment.

To speak to someone at CMHA Toronto about a planned gift, please contact us at giving@cmhato.org or by calling 416-789-7957.
The benefits of leaving a bequest in your Will

Reduced taxes – CMHA Toronto will issue an official tax receipt which can then be used to reduce the tax payable on your final return.

Flexible and revocable – A charitable gift can be made for any amount and is revocable at any time should your financial situation change.

Leave a legacy of belonging and hope – A gift in your Will creates a lasting legacy of recovery and positive mental health for CMHA Toronto’s clients and their families for generations to come.
