Accreditation Canada is an independent, not-for-profit organization that sets standards of excellence for quality and safety in health care organizations across Canada. The Accreditors conducts regular assessments of health care organizations to ensure they meet these standards and provides guidance on areas for improvement.

CMHA Toronto's recent evaluation included a comprehensive assessment of its services, policies, and processes, as well as interviews with board members, staff, volunteers, and clients. The Accreditors found that CMHA Toronto met all the required standards, and in many cases, exceeded them.

"We're incredibly proud of this achievement," said Michael Anhorn, Chief Executive Officer of CMHA Toronto. "This recognition is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and partners, who have worked tirelessly to provide the best possible mental health services to the community."

The accreditation report highlighted CMHA Toronto's strong commitment to client-centered care, as well as its focus on continuous quality improvement. Accreditation Canada noted in the report “While the pandemic has had significant impacts on how and what programs and services are delivered, this organization has risen to the occasion used creativity, tenacity and passion to meet the needs of a very vulnerable population.”

The Accreditors also recognized CMHA Toronto’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and its efforts to provide accessible mental health services to all members of the community. “Community partners are strong and many ranging from health, education, government, housing, contracted partners, funder, clients and families. Their many skills include meeting clients where they are at, being community based, professional yet personal, evidence informed, advocates, fundraisers and leaders. Partners reinforced that all levels of the organization and people within it live the strategic plan.”

"We know that mental health is more important now than ever before," said Anhorn. "That's why we're committed to providing high-quality, accessible mental health services to everyone in the community. This accreditation is a validation of our efforts, and we're thrilled to have achieved a perfect score."
